The Quest and the New Adventure

by Gambitt

My name is Gambitt. My last name is unknown. I was born in Mercya under my mother's roof. I never knew my father or what he was about because he had died in a poison fray. My grandfather was unknown to me also. No one in my town seemed to answer me when I asked about them, or who they were. I would get answers like "He's your father, who else?" or some other insanities. This led me to think about if they were criminals or heroes that no one would tell me about. Besides, there were great tales of heores and different idols around Mercya, all that surprised me, and captured my attention.

I was a very adventurous furre, and when I grew up, I explored the far depths of the Mecinian Mts. near our home. I was able to go anywhere outside home. Our town's inventor made clones to guard our internal borders. Because of this, I was never allowed to cross the border to that side... until one day. I was out exploring when I noticed a small lizard, with treeish green scales and a sharp blue complexion. A devilish red horn placed like a stake in the lizard's jelousy-green cortex. I followed it as it started to turn about and straddle away. It was not very quick, so I had to slow down every few steps to keep myself invisible to it. Finally, I noticed it had stopped, and I noticed where I was. I was in the other side of town, and I had lost my way back, so I let the lizard run off as I explored. I was walking for what seemed like hours until I came to a patch of leaves. I had recognized this as a trap for unwanted explorers. I continued to walk forward, but noticed that my belt had dropped myteriously behind. So, while moving toward the belt, slipped on the patch of leaves and fell through. I was falling for eternity and it felt like there was no end, until all was black.

When I awoke, I was inside a cave with a faint light, and no sides to climb on. The top of the pit was not visible; it must have been night time. I finally looked out of the corner of my eye, to see a box. A small box no more than 4 inches long and 3 inches wide. It was carefully decorated with a silver finish, shining from the dim light from the cave. It sparkled with 4 gold symbols. The heart was gold with a red tint, so was the diamond to the right of it. The spade and the clover were brilliantly sparkled with black and gold, making the light darker to the symbols. I had heard from my grandfather how these cards were fun, but somewhat evil. I never heard from him after he told me that. For some strange reason I can't explain, I almost feel as if the townsfolk were hiding something from me.

Putting all fears aside, I apporached the box. As I got closer, the box seemed to glow deeper and wide-opened. Until finally I opened the box and in a flash and a whirlwind, the lizard I saw before, only taller, was standing in my eyes. He said to me, in a casual way, "A long time ago, people were bored with what games they had. Solitare games were not as fun as thy could have been. So, the furres decided to make a game out of cards. It was later decided that playing cards were to be its formal name. The furres had fun with the cards, until some decided to play with money. Gambling was invented from the name of the furre who invented the concept. For the rest of their lives, they played with money. Mass profits were everywhere. But one day, a strange force exited out of a card box, and kidnapped the furre who started it all. That is who I am. You will now take my place in this card box. But before you do, we must duel to determine where you go. If you kill me, you stay in heaven-like Euphoria. If you lose, you go to a... wel, you'll see. Get ready to duel!"

And as he said that, a sword appeared on my side as I got ready for the first thrust. With style, he staggered off after me, the sword swinging furiously. My sword flung with my unexperinced wrist, as the lizard swung in a teasing fashion, trying to embarrass myself. My hands grew tired as I tried to contain my sanity, but all I could do was to counter his fatal blows. His hands flung through the air as he was trying a final jumping swing. After leaping from a corner, I slashed my sword through his open stomach, knocking him hard on the ground, dead. As the swords disappeared, my wounds healed. He sprung to his feet, looking better than before, with no cuts or bruises saying...

"Good job, Gambitt. Now, you must enter the box. You have deserved your heaven, and now you must experince it. I will write to you to inform you of your new quest. The quest to get your senses back, find your real identity, and find the one you love. To aid your quest are cards; 52 of them. With these cards you must use them wisely. They are very magical in many ways. So, be careful on how you use them. If you lose a card, you lose a life. You have 52 lives. One life for every card. Good luck, Gambitt."

And with that, he raised his hands, and stole my sight, taste, touch, smell, and feelings. I was able to see, but I could only in a red tint. I was partially colorblind, and my clothes had changed. They are what you see now in Furc. I noticed that my brown leather boots turned to white, my shirt and cape reduced in color and turned to a light yellow and white, and my hair changed from blond to blood red. With mass confusion, and nowhere to go, I slowly approached the card box, and quickly got sucked into it. For the next few hours I was experiencing a hell-type place. I felt water thrashing, fire burning, and rocks falling all on me. I thought my life would end until it was over.

On a shore in an unknown land, I woke up. A character approached me, and introduced himself as LeFleu. We talked for awhile as he showed me what to do in the new world of Furcadia. He taught me how to whisper long distance, make maps, and share responcibilities. The next 4 months were life-changing. I was finishing my resturant dream when a note appeared on my doorstep. It was the lizard, as promised. He wrote that in order to get my sight back, I must get a certain pair of two cards after a deal. After reading this, I turned to a friend, Threnode, to play the game. We played for days, trying to find that mysterious pair. One day, while my Threnode was giving up, I dealed the last two cards, when I noticed something strange about the map. Ever since I started playing, the map seemed to be overrun with pillows. They seemed to form a shape of a card, more like the king of spades. After recognizing the pattern, I suspiciously turned over the dealt cards. In a flash, I went blind as Threnode was shocked, trying to get me to speak. I explained the situation, and turn around. I felt my eyes tremble, shaking in the sockets, releasing tension. Finally, I felt it stop. I opened my eyes solwly to reveal color, and Threnode's true face. I had defeated the first part of the quest.

After living in Furcadia for a few days, I decided to meet a few furres who didn't mind my feeling-less self. I met a friendly female feline by the name of Tayleb. I told her my dilemma and decided to try her magic on me. She convinced me into believing that she could help get my senses back. She brought me to her dream decorated with little knick-knacks, and showed me to the pool. I was instructed to drink a potion she conjured up, and take a dip in the pool. I did so, as she explained she had to leave. Saying farewell, I dove into the pool and instantly felt my whiskers and my nose tingling. Feeling confident of another change, I stepped out of the pool waiting for the next occurance. The nose wriggled and trembled and finally stopped. The next thing I knew, I was standing by the pool, smelling the potion in my breath! I was relieved, but couldn't express it since I still had no feeling, taste or touch. So ended the second part of my quest.

The third quest arrived in a note from that same lizard explaining my next quest. To get my senses back, I would have to kiss a female that I would fall in love with, even with no feelings. She would have to feel the same. Knowing that this would be the hardes t challenge, I searched Furcadia, trying to hopefully be noticed. One night, Lygeia, a dear friend of mine, invited me to her dream for a dinner party. I agreed to show up, and met some other furres who were there. I was seated next to a young pretty furre by the name of Donde, who had troubles of her own. Lygeia suggested that we exchange stories, to know more about us. So, I shared my tale, so did Donde. We both felt compassion for each other, as Lygeia explained she would be going to another part of the map with someone else. We said our goodbye's, and finally the table cleared, except for me and Donde. We both gazed lovingly into each other's hearts and fell in love. I told her about my last cure, about the kiss, and without a sound nor a whisper, her lips met mine as the feelings of joy entered my mind. I felt thetremble again throughout my body, and finally being able to feel Donde's lips on mine, to taste the loving moans of her mouth, and to feel the love I had for her. Realizing my quest was over, I stared into my new lover's eyes, and lived my future in peace. Until I did the most ruthless thing I ever thought of doing.

I was away making a dream when I thought that since my quest was over (I guessed), I might as well burn the cards. Foolishly I did, and was wrong. I had died by suicide, with no note and no trace except for my cards' ashes. I had returned in Mercya though, and lived with my family until I returned to the pit, and jumped in, and got resurected by Mystique's mystic powers. It was exactly a month in Furcadia, and all was well until I heard news of Donde. I was back to mapmaking when I heard about Donde. She had died by taking a vile of poison. After these occurences, I held a properburial for her, and as I stood by the grave, a voice called my name. It was the lizard, only visible to me. He told me that to end this quest, I must fight him with my cards, against his longsword. I accepted, if it would end the hateful quest. We fought for what seemed like hours, until I killed him with a powerful blow.

A magic aura surrounded as he was taken to his home. I was close to dead as I felt the same aura, curing me. When I awoke, I was in Furcadia still, but the cards were gone. A note appeared instead saying thjat my real name is Gambitt III. My father was Gambitt II (who died in a famous Mercyan battle), and the lizard (and the gambling maker), Gambitt I. Knowing my true identity, I live in Furcadia, living a normal life, waiting for Donde to return. My heart, filled with sorrow, sat down with heavy bags. I sat patiently until I heard a voice, it sounded very familiar. I approached the figure closely and noticed that it was Donde, but was in the middle of curing a furre. I could only watch as she was using her magic. When the spell was over, she collapsed in my arms. After a few moments of confusion, she awoke, trying to remember everything. I comforted her until all her memory was back. When she said my name to me, I was in heaven to know that she was back, and everything would be back to normal.

Now, she is back, our troubles are almost over, and I am looking forward to giving her my ring and my vow of marriage. I also look forward to a wonderful career with my friends on Furcadia, and in The Duelist Guild.
