1.0 The Welcomer Mission:

Welcomers act as Ambassadors of Furcadia to all newcomers who step paw in Furcadia. We are given the honor of greeting each new furre, teaching them the basic techniques, and helping them find their own personal niches within the Furcadian Community. We are the guiding lights to new furres and depending on how well we perform our duties will determine how educated our visitor will be or if they even return to Furcadia again at all. Needless to say, we have one of the most important and complicated jobs. We, and our work, often times decide if a new Furcadia player stays. We strive to do our best to make a new furre's "birth" in a new world as pleasant and fun as possible.

2.0 The Welcomer's Duties:

First and foremost, as is stated in our group name 'Welcomers', we are to welcome any new furres that we claim or come across. Not only welcome, but just as well make the new furre feel comfortable in Furcadia though they are brand new to this realm.

One way to make a new furre feel comfortable is to first introduce yourself to them while you are face to face. For example:

"Hi, my name is Kannikah, welcome to Furcadia! I will be your Welcomer and I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have in mind or show you some of the hot spots in Furcadia!"

Introducing yourself and offering your help to the new furre automatically breaks the ice! It lets the new furre know that you will be patient with them while they learn about their new surroundings.

2.1 Basic Furcadian Commands (How To Play The Game):

Next, teaching the basic commands of Furcadia should be the top priority of every Welcomer. The main commands that a new furre should be taught are:

How To Talk: Typing out your message while your Furcadian Screen is open and then pressing enter sends what you said to all the furres upon the screen that you can see.

How To Whisper: Typing /name message will send a private message to that specific furre which only they will be able to hear no matter where they are in the land of Furcadia. (Example: /Erhina Hello there, how are you today?) To whisper a furre with two words in their name type your slash, then the first word in their name, followed by a | (which is what \ turns into when you hold shift and press that button) and then the last name before writing out your message.

How To Look At A Furre: To see who a furre is and to read their description click on the furre with your mouse or if you know the furre's name and they are on the same map that you are, type look furre. (Example: look Alania)

How To Walk: Using the arrow keys to move around seems to be the easiest way for most furres to get around. However some furres do like to use there mouse to move about instead. Take it easy on new furres when you teach them how to walk around, they probably won't be used to moving about just yet.

Switching Walking Animations: Pressing F11 allows you to switch between the three different walking animation types that there are so that a furre can find the one that he likes best.

How To Sit/Lay: To lay just hold control and press L once and then to sit up right do the same command again, hold control and press the L button. Or you may just wish to show your new furre the sit/lay button upon the A Tab since that is easier to use than the actual commands.

How To Turn/Spin About: To turn in place press either the Insert or Delete button as many times as needed to face the direction you wish.

Picking Up/Using Items: To pick up an item stand over it and press the F2 button or use Button picturing the hand about to grasp an item on the A-Tab below your character picture. Then to use an item you can press the Button picturing a hand holding/using something on the A-Tab or press F3 while your furre has the item. You can even point out to the new furre that when they pick up an item it appears on the tray that their furre is carrying beside their character picture. Be sure to tell the furre that items can not be taken from one map to another.

The `Join Command: By typing `Join name a furre can go exactly to where another furre is if the other furre accepts.
(Example: `Join Tequila|Sunset)

The `Summon Command: You can summon a furre to come exactly where you are by typing 'Summon name if the other furre accepts. (Example: `Summon Mailgurl)

Note: Many furres do not know where the ` key is located at. On US/UK-layout keyboards it is on the same key where the tilde symbol (~) is at. On German and French keyboards it is the key located to the left of the backspace key (they also need to hold down shift).

Using The F3 Button: Using the F3 button can either move a furre to specific location on the map, such as the very center of the dream or at an interesting place or the F3 button can be pressed while you are carrying an item to use it.

Using The F4 Button: When a furre presses the F4 Button they will be told just how many furres are online in all of Furcadia, how many furres are on the map that they are on, the names of the furres on the map, and the highest number of furres that have been on at the same time while Furcadia has been up so far.

How To Tell The Time: To tell what time it is in Furcadia just type time. The time in Furcadia is also known as FST or Furcadia Standard Time.

Also at this point it would be good to teach the furre you are Welcoming about all the other buttons on the rest of the Tabs, especially the 'warp' buttons on the B-Tab that can take you to any of the Main Dreams in Furcadia.

2.2 What Is There To Do In Furcadia?

Though teaching the basic commands is important, if a furre has a question right off the bat or even several of them, go ahead and answer them. One of the most usual questions you will hear is 'What is there to do in Furcadia?" or "What can we do for fun in Furcadia?". There is of course, no set answer to this! This is the point where you get the chance to tell the furre you are Welcoming what you love to do in Furcadia! You could mention playing games in Challenges, Role-Playing, Creating your own dreams, Joining/Making a Guild, or Just meeting a new friend or two! :)

2.3 Showing Your New Furre Around:

One of the most useful things to do for a new furre is to give them a Tour about Furcadia. This is the highlight of Welcoming for some Welcomer Beekins, they love to show new furres about! But if you are not sure how to start off a Tour, that is okay! First off,  before you even begin Welcoming Furres or when you are still in Training to become a Welcomer Beekin, I would suggest you create a Tour of your own.

Creating a Tour isn't as hard as it sounds, really! First, you'll want to pick out a few maps to show off in your Tour. Most furres at least show off a couple of the main maps, but those aren't the only ones you can include on your tour, Guild maps are good to show new furres as well! After you have your maps picked out, I would suggest you actually walk through those maps and pick out specific areas to talk about.

Such as in Meovanni Village you could show Mycroft's Bar, the Meovanni Theater, Leonardo Park, and the Chapel, mentioning a fact or two about each. Not only does this give the new furre a better idea of what is on the maps that you show them, but tours also help furres think up questions that they would like to ask.

Just showing around your new furre isn't the only thing you can do with them while on a Tour.. You could play a game with them like Checkers in Challenges, show them your own dream, introduce them to your own friends, or even spar with them while in a Guild Dream.. Remember, this is supposed to be fun for you too so be creative and have a good time! :)

To make your Tours even easier and quicker, feel free to make a Tour Script and have what you want to say already prewritten on a word or notepad document. Already having your Tour written out helps the Tour go much smoother and quicker so that the new furre doesn't have to wait on you to type out all the info and so that you don't forget any information that you wanted to pass along to the new furre. :)

3.0 The Welcomer's Channel:

Since the new Channel has been added it seems that the Welcoming process has become much more easy and efficient. It may seem a little odd to you when you first hop on the Channel and start Welcoming, but once you get the Channel Commands down, it'll be a breeze! :)

First off, to log onto the Welcomer Channel type `jg Welcomers (Note that the ` should be the button located next to the number 1 button or it is the button that turns into ~ when you hold shift down and press it. The ` is used in many of the Welcomer's Commands so expect to see if over and over!). When you log onto the Welcomers' Channel you will see a message such as this:

[W] Lumos has joined the channel, 'WelcomerChannel'.

Except in your case your name would appear instead of Lumos' name of course.

While on the Welcomer Channel you will see Welcomer notices pop up, like:

[!] NewFurre has arrived in Furcadia for the first time.

A notice like this means a brand new furre has arrived in Furcadia that you may offer your Welcoming Skills to. To claim a furre that you would like to Welcome, just type 'c name or as in the example, you would type 'c NewFurre

When you actually claim a new furre, you'll get to see a message like this:

[W] Lumos is now the Welcomer for NewFurre.

Of course the name Lumos would be replaced with your own and the name NewFurre would be replaced with the real new furre's name. As soon as a new furre is claimed they are automatically sent a message telling them that you are now their welcomer, and to whisper you if they would like help or a tour. The message does explain how to whisper *you*.

Sometimes you will even have furres sent to the Welcomer Channel:

[W] Xayide Liona needs help of Welcomer Channel with: Xayide Liona (Sent by Lumos)

When you see one of these notices come across the screen it means that a furre is in need of a Welcomer's Services and either needs to be taught about Furcadia, would like a Tour, or both!

Furres are usually sent by Welcomers who could not finish teaching a newfurre and need another Welcomer to take over or a Desk Beekin has found a newfurre who needs a little bit more help from a Welcomer. And you claim a furre who is sent to the the Welcomer Channel the same as if it was a new furre who just entered Furcadia by typing `claim name

If for some reason you can not finish helping and Welcoming a new furre then send the furre back to the Welcomer Channel to be helped by another Welcomer. To do so you just type `sendw name

Another helpful command to know is the `que command. When you type `que you will be shown all the furres who still need to be claimed by a Welcomer. Many Welcomers automatically check the que when they come on and clear it out if there are any furres still waiting to be Welcomed. This helps to make sure that all furres who come through are Welcomed even if they aren't Welcomed right as they come on Furcadia.

While on duty you also have the ability to talk to and ask questions of other Welcomers on the Channel if need be by typing chat and then the message that you want everyone on the Welcomer Channel to see.

Typing `onduty will list how many helpers are on duty on each of the channels.

Typing listf will list the Welcomers logged into the Welcomer Channel at the moment.

Two newer commands that all furres can use is the `join and `summon commands. These two commands can be extremely helpful when you are dealing with a new furre. To easily bring the new furre where you are just type `summon name or to join the newfurre wherever they are just type `join name. I suggest however that you make sure you tell the new furre what you are about to do before you try to join or summon them so they know what is going on. =)

And then lastly, typing `leave will turn off your Beekin badge and log you off the Welcomer Channel.

4.0 Beekin Behavior:

As a Beekin, it is important that you always try to be on your best behavior at all times, especially while you have your badge on! While we understand that nobody is perfect and that everybody has a bad day every now and then, it is the Beekin's code to be kind and respectful towards all their fellow furres. Also, as Beekins we try to help out when and where we can, however if you aren't in the mood to help or you just don't feel like it, then you certainly don't have to! Just help and do what you can when you feel the want to. =)

As Beekins what we do and the information we are told as Beekins is confidential. Such as, Beekin commands, our abilities, the information in the classes, and most of the information that will be passed down to you from the Welcomer Heads is not to be shared with others. All that is for you and you alone.

Beekins are not to misuse or flaunt their power in any way. We are in no way above other furres nor are we given special powers. Our mission is to help those who need it and be of service when we can be to the Furcadian Community.

Any problems of disagreements that you may have with other Beekins or staff members should not be dealt with in public. If you can not reach an understanding then bring it to the attention of either a council member, mentor, or associate.

Please make sure that you do not advertise or annoy with your Beekin badge on. The badge is something to be proud of, please treat it appropriately.

While it is tempting, please do not "hang out" near the Help Desk in New Haven, unless you are there to "pick up" a newfurre.
