This page describes how to update an existing installation of Furcadia for OSX to the latest version. If you have not already installed Furcadia for OSX, just download the OSX installer and follow the instructions there, rather than using this document.
Because we are distributing Furcadia for OSX as a Wine installation, we cannot simply make the Wine installer delete the old files and replace them with new ones, as we do with the Windows version. We are looking at ways to do this for future versions, to make the whole process easier and smoother for Mac users, but for the time being, upgrading on OSX uses the same installer as upgrading for Windows, rather than using the OSX installer.
Step 1: Download the Windows update file - not the OSX installer!
Step 2: Run the downloaded file, by doubleclicking it.
Step 3: This will open a bunch of possibly confusing windows - but ignore them ALL. Instead of doing anything with them, click the wineglass in your toolbar, which will open the Wine menu. Pick "Change Prefix..." from the menu, as shown.
Step 4: Doubleclick "Furcadia working copy".
Step 5: Accept the change.
Step 6: Click the wineglass again and select "quit wine", accepting any prompt windows that pop up.
Step 7: The preceding steps were just to set up Wine to accept the update. Now we'll run the update. Doubleclick the file you downloaded a second time, and this time, find the prefix window, and choose the correct prefix. This should be the only one that starts /Users/YourName/Library/Application Support
Step 8: Click "Go". This is the only other window you need to worry about: all the others can be ignored and closed.
Step 9: The Furcadia installer should then open. Follow it through as normal.
