Map
of Theriopolis
Current Status:
This area is Rosemary Point, a neutral district controlled by House Mundi.
It is a time of peace but the forces of Light and Dark are at odds here.
Current Mayor:
Giacomo di Fiori.
The Geography
The city of Theriopolis was built on over a dozen islands in a close group
sewn together by numerous bridges. The water of the canals is generally
salty. Rain is collected and channeled into little cisterns.
The Government
The government here is a republic under the Council of Lords (Consiglio dei
signori) and the Council of Merchants (Consiglio dei Commercianti). It is
presided over by the Mayor (il Sindaco), who is chosen by the Council of
Lords.
The Age of Reason
Theriopolis is essentially a Renaissance city, and "hocus pocus"
doesn't garner any respect. Inventors, astronomers, engineers, and other
scholars, however, are given highest honors. Nobles are eager to support the
arts and sciences.
Sorry, Magic...
Magic is so weak in
the Olde World that most natives don't even believe it exists. As a plot
assumption, attempts to prove its existence will fail.
About Graves
Theriopolis has only one graveyard; land is too precious. Funerals take
place on that one small island, where bodies are interred for one year.
After that, they must be moved to the mainland.
Not wanting to make such a journey to the mainland to visit a relative or
friend's body, some noble families keep secret private underground crypts.
About the Gondolas
These poled boats are
the ubiquitous transport of nearly everyone in Theriopolis. Even nobles do
not keep riding hawks and (non-sentient) riding dragons here; there is not
enough for them to eat (not even fish).
-
Although real
gondolas are poled and steered from the back, Use (Control-U) in the front
seat will make both passengers go to the next stop on the route.
About House Mundi
Guards (a.k.a., The Protectors)
The Mundi family are foreigners, here as a result of alliance with the
powerful local family Balsamud. They take a dim view of weres, vampires,
indeed, anything "peculiar". Thus, they employ iron-willed guards
to destroy any overt supernatural manifestations above ground. As the Mundis
are Kasurian, they are more familiar with the paranormal, and have equipped
the guard with protective charms against evil. Special training, silver on
the crossbow tips and Vinca tattoos on the throat are the norm. A deep
grudge against vamp-furres or were-furres or both, is typical. A few are in
it for the thrill of the hunt-- they enjoy the legalized killing.
Specific
Locations
Corridoio per affitto
(Hall for rent)
This place is owned by House Mundi. It is leased for a reasonable fee, no
questions asked.
-
Use a skull
on the circle to close access to the building. Use is first-come,
first-served. Please respect the OOC efforts of those who have gathered. Do
not stage protests, invasions, attacks etc. (It's twinky).
(Compratore dei Pesci)
"Fish buyers's" A place where poor folks can sell their catch for
a few pennies, and slackers sit around on crates of salt. It's also a place
where underworld gossip might turn up.
(magazzino condannato
costruito sulle rovine antiche del tempiale)
"Condemned warehouse constructed on the antique ruins of a temple"
A local legend holds that this area was once a hilltop with a temple. The
place was defiled by sacrifice of furre children and the resident nature
spirit cursed that spot, causing the ground to split and buildings to sink.
They say that the golden treasures of the temple were never found.
Mercato delle Gemme
Gem Market
A place to buy practical necessities or luxury goods imported from all over.
Il Corridoio di Acciaio
The Hall of Steel
A place where the youth of the district display their skill at arms.

How they can still survive in the salt water is a mystery.
L' Infermeria
A little hospital.
Fontana Del Punto Della
Rosemary
Rosemary Point Fountain
is hundreds of years old, nobody knows who built the fountain. Larger boats
used to come to this dock until an incident nearly two generations ago.
Local legend says that a ship crewed by deformed furres and
"monsters" arrived. The ship was attacked and sunk; the crew and
passengers escaped into the night.
Casa di Quelle Meno
Fortunate
(House for Those Less Fortunate)
This is a hostel sponsored by House Mundi; lodging here is cheap but not
free. Many a clandestine meeting has taken place in its pleasant basement,
over food and wine from the legendary Marconi's nearby.
Marconi's
Sea-going folk for
generations, the Marconi family serves generous portions of some of the
finest food in all Theriopolis. Enzio Marconi claims his great-grandmother
was a mer-furre, can you believe it?
Stazione di polizia della
citta di Teriopoli
(Theriopolitan Police Station)
This is a station for the city guard, who tend to act only if something
threatens other parts of the city. The peace tends to be kept by the guards
of the noble family (House) whose territory it is.
Martello Argento (di
Massimo)
Max's Silver Hammer
This is a forge where fine blades are made but they're very expensive.
Arsenale della Spada Blu
